10 Do’s and Don’ts After an Idaho Injury Accident

Do’s

  1. Check on the well-being of all people involved
  2. Treat the investigating law enforcement officer with respect, cooperation and court
  3. Make sure you get the other driver’s name, address, phone number and insurance information
  4. Get photographs and/or videos of the vehicles, anyone’s visible injuries, and the scene of the accident
  5. Get all witnesses’ names, addresses, and phone numbers
  6. Explain to your doctors, nurses, physical therapists and other health care providers all of the symptoms you are experiencing and places you are having pain
  7. Comply with the doctor’s directions, go to follow-up appointments and obtain the recommended treatment
  8. Get back to your regular life and activities as soon as you can
  9. Keep records and documentation of what happens
  10. Talk to a quality personal injury attorney

Don’ts

  1. Leave the scene before the police arrive unless necessary for medical care
  2. Fail to report an accident if anyone may be injured, or if the damage to either vehicle is more than $1500.00
  3. Give a recorded statement without fully understanding the implications
  4. Discuss your injuries or case on social media
  5. Exaggerate to anybody about the extent or nature of your injuries
  6. “Over-do-it” while you are recovering from your injuries
  7. Refuse medical attention if you or someone else is hurt
  8. Be intimidated by the other driver or insurance company
  9. Sign anything without understanding your rights and responsibilities
  10. Fail to get available free legal advice.

    Thanks for telling what to do after a car accident from an attorney’s perspective. Your suggestion about not leaving the scene before the police arrive is an important one. When I was in my first car accident, I didn’t know about this and it made filling out the paperwork a lot harder. Great advice to follow.
